Lizzo clarifies what she meant by ‘I quit’ comments | Ents & Arts News

US pop star Lizzo has assured fans that she is not quitting the music industry – after an earlier statement where she said she is tired of being ridiculed online.

The About Damn Time singer, made headlines after she ended an Instagram post last week with “I didn’t sign up for this shit. I quit” – after saying she was being “dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet”.

But in a new video on Tuesday, the 35-year-old clarified that she meant she was “quitting giving any negative energy attention” and not singing or songwriting.

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting the people,” she said in a video on social media.

She continued: “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves, and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.

“With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me.”

The Grammy Award winner also thanked fans for the love she has received, adding it “means more than you know”.

Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was sued last August by ex-dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

At the time, she described the allegations as “gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing” – adding that the claims are “as unbelievable as they sound”.

In her post on 30 March, Lizzo said she is “constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look”.

A day before the statement, a lawyer, who represents the three former dancers who filed the lawsuit against the singer, said it was “shameful” that she headlined a Radio City fundraiser for President Joe Biden “amid such egregious allegations”.
