Woman, 22, moves in with 73-year-old man and shares what surprised her
A young woman has opened up about what it is like to live with a man 51 years older than her.
Living with people can be really fun, or a nightmare. Often we agree to live with someone we have never met before, or only know briefly through work or mutual friends. Or you may be so close with a friend that you think living together will be fun, but the living situation makes you realise what they are actually like behind closed doors.
Living with a housemate can help split the cost of the rent and bills, and in the current climate it is so difficult to manage the financial strain on your own. 22-year-old backpacker Ella Wilson was looking for someone to move in with – and six months ago she moved in with a random 73-year-old man.
Opening up on TikTok, she has been sharing videos of her experience and what she and her housemate, David Cox, get up to. Ella said she was “sceptical at first” but had “a good gut feeling” that it was going to work out. She also said her family trusted her and were not worried either.
Ella has described David as the “best housemate ever”.
Ella moved in with retiree David in Sydeny, Australia, in September 2024, after backpacking around Australia. The Brit says the best part about living with him is that she has been able to help him get fitter. Recently, the pair completed a 5K run together and Ella shared a sweet video of the pair completing the challenge together.
She said: “Six months ago I moved in a random 73-year-old man. We went on a few runs together. He couldn’t do more than about a kilometre with literally looking like he was going to keel over and die. Six months later, we’ve achieved a lot of things together, but today was our first five kilometer park run.”
She added: “We put on our matching trainers and off we went and oh, actually, David overslept so he was very unprepared for this. It amazes me how fit and active this man is, he’s honestly incredible. I feel like we’ve been leading up to this moment for quite a while now and we randomly decided to for it today so here we are. So here we are about to set off on our 5K run.”
Ella could not believe how well her house mate did. She said: “He’s not even breaking a sweat.”
People have been heartwarmed by the sweet friendship the pair have formed. One individual commented: “Your friendship needs to be turned into a book or movie. 10/10 would recommend!” “You are adding years to his life,” added another.
One other said: “I absolutely adore your connection and vibrancy. I thank you for finding each other and sharing your adventures with us, it’s so refreshing to watch you guys.”
Someone else agreed, writing: “He smashed it, you’re adding years to his life and he’s adding all his knowledge and experience to yours.” A fourth also chimed in with: “This man has gained a granddaughter.”
Meanwhile, another wrote: “I absolutely adore your connection and vibrancy, thank you for finding each other and sharing your adventures with us, it’s so refreshing to watch you guys.”
