Winter Olympics legend stretchered away after horror fall | Other | Sport
Canadian skier Cassie Sharpe had to be stretchered away after suffering a nasty fall during the freeski qualifiers in the Winter Olympics. The 33-year-old suffered the accident during her second run.
Sharpe’s mum, dad and brother were seen in tears as she was stretchered away. The Canadian was in third spot after her first run with a score of 88.25, behind Team GB‘s Zoe Atkin and China’s Li Fanghui. She will now, however, be an injury doubt to compete in the final, which takes place on Saturday.
Sharpe is a big name in freeski halfpipe, having won gold in PyeongChang in 2018, followed by a silver in Beijing in 2022. She announced her retirement from the sport in 2022, but made her comeback two years later.

Speaking about her comeback, she said: “I was watching X Games, sitting in the living room, holding [Louella, her daughter], I was watching the girls [compete] and I was just like, oh, maybe I’m not done, maybe I go for another [season].”
“I have two Olympic medals, I obviously want to perform well, I obviously want to do the thing. But qualifying was my base.
“To me, success is making it to the Olympics. So I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
