We tried five cosy Oodie must-buys 50% off for Black Friday weekend

Black Friday weekend is in full swing with brands such as Debenhams, Dunelm, Dyson, Amazon, Antler, Boots, Ninja, Shark, Sky and Virgin Media all  slashing prices on thousands of products. However, for bargain hunting shoppers, one of the biggest and best Black Friday sales of the year comes courtesy of Oodie, which has cut a massive 50% off everything with no exceptions.

This means shoppers can make huge savings not just on the iconic hooded blanket that’s become a winter staple for many, but dozens of other products too. The Australian loungewear brand’s original product became a firm favourite with people wanting to stay warm at home and inspired everyone from the White Company to Poundland to create their own versions.

Moreover, this year’s Black Friday discounts see the design that started it all reduced to its lowest ever price, £32.50, making it cheaper than many of its alternatives, including M&S whose similar snuggly hooded blanket is £35. But if you think Oodie is only about the fleecy garments that bear their name, then you’re actually missing out, not just on some great deals this Black Friday but some genuinely game-changing garments.

The brand has expanded into shoes, trousers, slippers, towel ponchos and even mini Oodies for dogs, as well as designs devoted to Pokemon, Harry Potter, Stranger Things and Star Wars, reports the Mirror. This means there’s a lot more to Oodie – and their Black Friday sale – than might first appear.

Here are our top five must-haves from this year’s Oodie Black Friday sale, as tried, tested and adored by the Express Shopping team. 

1. The Sleep Oodie – was from £45 now from £22.50

Over the past few years, I’ve tried numerous Oodie products, having purchased my first, a navy blue version of the original hooded blanket, to keep warm while working from home without needing to turn on the heating when I was the only one in the house. There’s no denying that we all adore the iconic cosywear, with its elasticated sleeves that prevent tangling or risk of an unwelcome draught, and the epic pocket perfect for phone, snacks and even the remote control if you want to hide it from anyone who might switch off your binge-watch of choice.

However, anyone who’s tried to sleep in the full OG thickness Oodie will know that sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, with the blanket eventually likely to make you feel too hot to sleep. This is where the brilliance of the Sleep Oodie comes into play.

Made of bamboo cotton and as generously sized as its fleecy cousin, the joy of the Sleep Oodie lies in the fact that the material allows a kind of temperature regulation that I’d seen in wicking workout gear before but never thought of in my nightwear. The thermo-regulating properties of bamboo that cool you down while exercising help keep you cool in summer but warm in winter.

It’s quite loose-fitting, which might be a deal-breaker for some (and my husband describes it grumpily as ‘the tent’), and the cotton material means it takes a while to dry. However, it’s genuinely the most comfortable sleepwear I’ve ever owned and is ideal if you start the night feeling cold but get warmer as you sleep – it’s won plenty of fans among women experiencing hot flushes.

Sleep Oodies are available in a wide range of designs with prices starting from £22.50. This is not only significantly cheaper than when I first reviewed it, but also offers better value than many other high street nightwear options, leading me to seriously consider purchasing another one.

2. The Outdoor Oodie was £109, now £54.50.

It’s not just Oodie’s premium sleepwear that is suddenly more affordable than many other reliable high street alternatives. I’ve been wearing the Camo blue reversible Outdoor Oodie for weeks, and the sale makes it better value than many other winter coats I’d been considering as the weather changed.

While the oversized pockets, giant hood and overall cosiness are a staple, there are several differences between the outdoor version compared to its indoor counterpart that make it a must-buy for me. Initially, I was slightly worried that an Outdoor Oodie would be too shapeless to wear outside.

However, unlike the traditional ones, the Outdoor Oodie comes in several (still very generous) sizes, allowing you to choose something large enough to layer underneath without looking like you’re wearing a tent. It features a handy double zip for easy adjustment and my absolute favourite feature is the thumbhole that keeps the sleeves in place and your wrists warm regardless of the weather. As someone who enjoys beach walks throughout the year, it’s become my winter coat of choice.

3. Oodie shoes – were £59 now £29.50

When shopping writer and self-confessed sneakerhead Rachel Pugh swapped her trainers for Oodie’s first venture into footwear for muddy winter dog walks, she expected warm feet. But what surprised her more was her conclusion that the shoes ‘were the best she’d ever bought.’

She explains: “Oodie’s Black Puffer Boots initially reminded me of North Face’s Thermoball boots, a style I’ve been eyeing for some time. But besides being cheaper, Oodie’s had another advantage – a beautiful Sherpa fleece interior lining, meaning you don’t even need to wear thick socks to experience a cloud-like feel on your feet.”

“With both style and practicality covered, I took the leap and placed my order, and I’m glad I did. Since my Puffer Boots arrived, I can honestly say I’ve worn them every single day. They feel like a slipper, with a fleece lining and padded heel support, but they have a rubber sole design that allows you to wear them outside without worrying about leaks or wear and tear. They’re the ultimate multipurpose shoe for autumn and winter.”

4. Oodie’s Weighted Blanket, which was £97, is now £47.50

Weighted blankets use the scientific principles behind deep pressure stimulation to promote deeper, more restful sleep. Some fans also say it helps deal with anxiety and stress. Oodie’s ultra-soft blanket usually costs £95 and is available in several colours and three weights – 4.5kg, 6.8kg, and 9kg.

The weight is dispersed evenly throughout the blanket, so you get even distribution across your body. Phoebe Barton, a writer for The Mirror, has given her review of the Oodie weighted blanket, describing it as a ‘comforting hug of a blanket.’

She explained: “The weighted blanket can be used underneath your duvet so it’s directly on your body, but I prefer having the blanket on top of my duvet. That night when I got into bed, the blanket felt a little heavy at first, but by the time I snuggled down to sleep after reading a couple of chapters of my book, my body had become used to the weight which felt warm and comforting.”

Phoebe found that she fell asleep quickly and fidgeted less throughout the night, leading to fewer awakenings. “Whenever I woke up to turn over, it was so cosy and relaxing feeling the weight of the blanket on top of me – it felt like I was being hugged,” she added, finishing by saying the Oodie weighted blanket will be a permanent fixture in her bed during the colder months, as it was more effective than three regular blankets combined.

4. Oodie Slippers – were from £49 now from £24.50

Oodie makes several different styles of slippers, ranging from cosy boots through to platform and flat slides. I have a pair of the flat black two strap sherpa slides which have been perfect for late summer into autumn. I love the style of them, they remind me of Uggs’ Oh Yeah slides but without the restraint of the elastic heel strap. They have a decent sole for when you need to slip outside for a minute or two to get to the bin but are still comfy.

I might move back to bigger boots – or wear these with socks – for the lowest temperatures but overall I find these cool enough when temperatures are decent but still cosy enough for all but the chilliest of weather. I got them as a gift and for £49 I’d have considered them a little price but at £24.50 they’re an absolute bargain.

And one bonus product we haven’t reviewed (yet): Oodie Cushion Case – was £10 now £5

As a woman who now owns multiple Oodies (everyone needs a Christmas one, right?), Sleep Oodies, slippers and an outdoor coat version, you’d think I wouldn’t need anything from the Oodie Black Friday sale. However, a brilliant new product has caught my eye and at this price, I’m planning on buying two.

The Oodie Cushion case is now reduced to £5 and, as someone who struggles with storage space for my Oodies in the summer – I don’t want to put them in the loft but they take up a significant amount of space in the top of the wardrobe – this feels like a great and functional way to store them. If you’ve got an Oodie superfan in your life, this may be the thing they didn’t even know they needed this Christmas – and at £5 it is the cheapest item in the Oodie Black Friday sale as well as arguably one of the most useful.

The brand’s sale runs until Cyber Monday. Debenhams and Dunelm are other retailers that have slashed the price of cosy loungewear for the season.
