Waitrose makes major change at checkouts in all UK stores | UK | News
Waitrose has made a major change at checkouts in all of its UK stores from this month.
The supermarket chain has announced the launch of ‘Little Treats’ which allows My Waitrose members the chance to claim up to three free perks in stores every month when they scan their loyalty card or app at the till. The new scheme, which is now available in Waitrose stores nationwide, marks the supermarket’s biggest give away since the return of free coffee earlier this year and follows trials at 74 stores through September and October. My Waitrose customers can now access the ‘Little Treats’ tracker in their Waitrose online account or in the app.
Once they have spent £50 in stores they will automatically receive a ‘Little Treat’ voucher which will pop up in their account. This will be followed by another voucher once they have spent £100 and a third treat voucher when they have spent £250.
So essentially, customers have three chances to claim a free treat each month and the count will reset to zero at the start of a new month. It means shoppers have the opportunity to get 36 little treats over a full year.
Waitrose explains: “To be eligible for the Little Treats scheme My Waitrose members must have made a transaction with Waitrose (either online or in-store) linked to their My Waitrose card in the 13 week period immediately before the calendar month that the Little Treats offer period relates to.”
The supermarket added: “Only transactions linked with a My Waitrose card are eligible towards the qualifying spend. Qualifying spend will be added to the account linked to the card used on each transaction. Spend can not be transferred to another account or cardholder.
“Qualifying spend will be reset to zero at the end of each calendar month and spend may not be rolled over to future calendar months. For online orders spend accrues in the month of delivery or collection.”
During the trial period of the scheme, the little treats up for grabs included a free bunch of Waitrose Foundation Pastel Roses, a No.1 pizza and up to £5 off in vouchers.
The qualifying spend to receive a little treat is the total spend with Waitrose (either online or in-store) within the relevant calendar month.
This excludes purchases on tobacco or tobacco related products, Lottery, scratch cards, stamps, prescription medicines, infant formula (0-6 months), gift cards, saving stamps, in-store concessions, Paypoint payments, charity donations, John Lewis Money Products or alcohol (in Scotland, Wales and Jersey) or within the Home & Fashion floors of Waitrose & Partners Canary Wharf.
Spend on delivery charges, car park charges or delivery pass charges are also excluded, as well as transactions with Waitrose via third party order platforms, such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats, Waitrose sites at motorway service stations, Waitrose petrol station sites, Waitrose Cellar and Waitrose Garden websites, Waitrose purchases within Dobbies Garden Centres, Leckford Estate Farm Shop & Cafe and Waitrose locations outside of the United Kingdom and Channel Islands.
Waitrose said ‘Little Treats’ is the tenth benefit available exclusively via the My Waitrose loyalty scheme, which already includes personalised offers, free hot drinks and 20% off selected service counter products.
Alex Lovell, Head of Loyalty at Waitrose, said: “The launch of ‘Little Treats’ is a massive moment in strengthening My Waitrose as a club for food lovers. It’s a way for us to say thank you to the growing number of loyal Waitrose customers.
“Loyalty has been a big focus for Waitrose in 2025, and we hope that each time a shopper claims their ‘Little Treat’, free Waitrose Food Magazine or personalised offer, it acts as a reminder of just how much we value them.”
Shoppers who aren’t yet loyalty members can sign up to My Waitrose online to start saving. Customers simply need to scan their card at checkouts each time they shop and will earn a Little Treat once they’ve spent £50.
