Vladimir Putin reeling as ‘Ukraine eliminates 1,600 Russian troops in a single day’ | World | News

Russia has suffered one of its bloodiest days of the war so far, with 1,600 casualties being inflicted in one day earlier this month, according to Ukraine.

The figures, released in a report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, show that the bloody day has taken total Russian casualties beyond 750,000, according to their estimates.

The figure means that Russia has, on average, lost 738 soldiers every single day since their illegal invasion. However, British intelligence estimates from this year put the figure at over 1,000 killed or wounded each day.

The final quarter of this year has seen bloody days become more common for the Russians as they continue their advance in the Donetsk region and their attempts to reclaim territory in the Kursk region.

On Nov 12, the Russians suffered their bloodiest day of the war, so far as 1,950 soldiers were lost, only for that record to be beaten two weeks later with more than 2,000 troops killed, wounded or captured.

Despite their losses, the Russians have been making significant gains. The highly respected Institute for the Study of War states that they have been advancing at their fastest rate since the invasion in 2022.

It is believed that around 500,000 of the total personnel loss of 750,000 come as a result of being wounded, with the Ukrainians estimating that around 100,000 Russians have been killed during the war.

Precise numbers are difficult to obtain because battlefield losses are notoriously hard to measure and because neither side releases casualty data.

A joint project run by the BBC and Mediazona, an independent Russian outlet, said on Friday that it had confirmed the deaths of 80,973 Russian soldiers since the full-scale invasion began.

Many experts believe that heavy casualties on both sides are partly due to the leadership of both armies being entrenched in Soviet-era doctrine, which relies on the concentration of forces and mass firepower.

The figures released by Ukraine show that in addition to the quarter of a million soldiers killed, captured or wounded, Russia has also lost 9,514 tanks, 19,518 armoured vehicles and 21,043 artillery systems since the beginning of the conflict.
