Vet lists six common mistakes with dogs you might be making
Owning a pet comes with the responsibility of ensuring our canine companions receive the love and support they need.
Given that our furry friends can’t directly tell us their needs, it’s often a challenge to understand how to help them flourish.
Fortunately, experts like veterinarians are available to guide us in caring for our beloved dogs. A seasoned vet, with 24 years of experience, recently took to Instagram to share six common mistakes pet owners make, which are often overlooked.
The account @furry.wellness6, dedicated to animal wellbeing, shared these insights with its 418,000 followers. The video said: “24 years as a veterinarian and yet no one listens to me when I tell them these important things…”
She began by advocating for a “raw diet” for dogs, claiming it contains “20 times more nutrients than kibble”. Kibble, commonly known as dog biscuits in the UK, is a dry dog food consisting of ground ingredients formed into pellets and cooked, typically containing meat, grains, vegetables, legumes, and fruits.
Additionally, the vet suggested using chamomile tea to soothe nerves and alleviate anxiety in pets, noting the beverage’s numerous health benefits, including promoting better sleep and aiding digestion.
Pumpkin puree is not just a seasonal treat but can also be a remedy for your dog’s digestive issues, as the video highlighted: “It works wonders for relieving diarrhoea or constipation.”
Additionally, incorporating plain yoghurt into your pet’s diet could enhance gut health and minimise gas. Bone broth is another nutritious option that supports digestion and joint health, easily made from chicken feet, necks, legs, and wings.
The advice didn’t stop there as she also recommended a liquid collagen to “stops the annoying shedding and helps with joint pain”. She suggested searching “Collagen for dogs” on Amazon for those interested.
Since being shared, the advice has sparked conversations on Instagram. One user testified: “Raw diet saved my dog’s life. Kibbles are the junkiest of all the junk food.”
Another chimed in: “You’re right! But most people don’t want to be bothered with the raw food and such. It’s easier to buy dried one. Generation of packed and already made food. And this is not about pets it’s also about good for kids and adults.”
