Joe Toal, social media specialist at The PHA Group, said Donald Trump and Elon Musk‘s public fued was sparked by “a clash of egos”.

He said: “As entertaining as the Musk vs Trump saga might be from the comments section, it’s a perfect reminder of why going to war on social media is rarely a smart move, even for the biggest names in the world.

“What started as a clash of egos has quickly turned into a public spectacle, with both sides trading jabs and their followers fuelling the fire.

“And while it might deliver a dopamine hit in the form of likes, quote tweets, and headlines, the long-term damage to credibility and public perception is real. Every petty swipe chips away at authority. It muddies personal brands that, whether they like it or not, represent billion-dollar businesses and influence millions.”
