Trent Alexander-Arnold singled out by Real Madrid boss in statement | Football | Sport
Trent Alexander-Arnold is starting to find his feet in a revamped Real Madrid side after a challenging beginning in Spain. The ex-Liverpool star left Anfield during the summer of 2025 to embark on a new chapter in La Liga, having previously spent his entire professional career in the Premier League.
The dismissal of Xabi Alonso further complicated matters. Alvaro Arbeloa reportedly told the player he should consider seeking a new club during the summer transfer window, as he wasn’t seen as part of the squad’s future.
However, this stance appears to have been reconsidered following an outstanding display against Real Sociedad on Valentine’s Day.

The right-back was named in the starting XI and provided an assist for Gonzalo Garcia inside the opening five minutes to give Madrid a 1-0 advantage. He was brought off after 60 minutes, with Madrid comfortably 4-1 ahead, and earned commendation from his current manager.
In his post-match comments, Arbeloa was quick to highlight the effort Alexander-Arnold has put in to impress him. He said: «From what I have been working on with him and what I have been able to discuss with him, he seems like a very intelligent guy.
«He understands the game very well and quickly grasps what we want from him and where we can make the most of his abilities. He is not the typical full-back who will always stay wide; he can play a lot inside in our system, where we want them to move and interchange positions.
«It’s a privilege to have a player like him, who can play inside and also move wide.»
These words of praise suggest that Alexander-Arnold’s position at the club is secure, despite rumours that he might leave Spain in the summer. It now appears that Arbeloa may wish to retain the defender.
The former Liverpool player shared a slideshow on Instagram marking his return with the caption: «Good to be back.» Fans seem delighted to see Alexander-Arnold back in action, with one writing: «My Guy good to see you back.»
Another fan said: «We are too blessed,» while a third added: «The passing today was [fire].»
One noted: «Welcome back Trent.»
