Tiger Woods has been absent from the PGA Tour in 2025, yet his recent showing at Ballen Isles Country Club has ignited a frenzy of speculation about a potential return to the circuit this year.

The golf icon, with 15 major titles to his name, turned up to support his son Charlie Woods during the Amateur Championship, inadvertently stealing the spotlight from the event’s contenders. Observers noted Tiger lounging casually in a golf cart, exuding an air of relaxation, his legs crossed and notably free from the walking boot that became synonymous with him following his left Achilles tendon rupture in March.

Woods had kept a low profile since his surgery, which was necessitated by an injury incurred post-The Genesis Invitational training session, but now emerged boot-free, prompting intense conjecture about his comeback aspirations.

Tiger’s presence was ostensibly to cheer for his son, but the absence of his protective boot had tongues wagging about when the golf superstar might make another tournament appearance.

Conversations across social media platforms suggested fans were content for Tiger to revel in his son Charlie’s emerging talent, believing he has nothing left to demonstrate in his monumental career. One devotee commented, “At this point, not getting hopeful for it. Just ready for Charlie to develop into a star.”

Another sceptic remarked: “Just stop. Tiger isn’t winning another tournament. His body is like 80 years old.”

A disgruntled fan voiced their concern: “Sure. Until he hurts another body part doing unnecessary ‘training’ that no golfer should be doing.”

The conversation amongst supporters rumbled on as they expressed their wish for the media to put to rest any speculation of Tiger Woods making a comeback unless he opts to compete on the Champions Tour when eligible at the age of 50.

Woods hasn’t teed off in any PGA Tour event throughout this year and had a limited showing in 2024. He pulled out from The Genesis Invitational in February but managed to qualify for The Masters, where he landed in 60th place with a disappointing score of 304 [+16], collecting $44,400 in prize money.

His performances at the PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open weren’t up to par, ending with a collective 28-over-par across these competitions.

Meanwhile, Charlie Woods is advancing the family legacy, scoring a respectable 74 in the opening round to tie for 39th position, trailing eight strokes behind leader Derek Busby’s compelling 66. At just 16-years-old, Charlie clinched a top-5 finish at the FJT PGA National Open in April and triumphed at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, rocketing up 595 places to number 14 in the world rankings.

“It means so much because I haven’t really performed at the highest level yet,” Charlie shared following his win. “And to finally do it after all the work I have put in and not playing well in big events in the past.

“Even though I know I am so much better than that and for it all to finally come together is such a great feeling.”
