Spanish city planning on ‘banning hen and stag dos’ as it is ‘ruined’ by parties | World | News

Europe has become a popular party destination for British bride and grooms out to have one last wild night before tying the knot. Thousands head to some of the continent’s most beautiful and iconic cities to hold their stag and hen parties.

Spain – with its countless number of stunning beach resorts and easily accessible cities from the UK – is a particular favourite. But local residents in many of Spain’s cities are growing fed up with the constant influx of high-spirited Brits determined to enjoy their last taste of freedom.

As a result municipal authorities have already started a crackdown on hen and stag dos in an attempt to stop the parties and appease local anger.

Authorities in Malaga are issuing fines of up to €750 (£643) for anyone caught walking around without clothes or in their underwear.

Seville’s City Council has also introduced similar measures, imposing fines of up to €1,500 (£1,287) for anti social and sexually indecent behaviour.

The backlash against stag parties and hen dos is spreading across Spain to more and ore cities. The latest to make a move is the city of Cordoba in the southern Spanish region of Andalucia.

One of the most culturally unique places in Spain, Cordoba is famous for its Great Mosque and attracts visitors from all around the world. Its historic old town is a World Heritage site, full of little streets to be explored, courtyards filled with flowers, inviting squares and lively bars and restaurants.

Not surprisingly, the city is one of the most popular venues for stag and hen dos but soon could become off limits.

Municipal officials are in the final stages of putting together legislation that will regulate behaviour in public spaces. Cordoba’s mayor José María Bellido said: “We are finishing the drafting work so that it can be implemented next week.”

The new measures are a response to complaints by residents living in the historic centre of the city.

They aim to control various activities ranging from stag and hen parties to the celebration of cultural or recreational events.
