Piers Morgan accuses Man Utd of ‘chucking Jim Ratcliffe under a bus’ | Football | Sport

Piers Morgan has accused Manchester United of throwing Sir Jim Ratcliffe under the bus following his comments about immigration. Ratcliffe – who has his tax residency in Monaco – claimed immigrants have “colonised” the United Kingdom and are costing the taxpayer “too much”.

The billionaire later apologised for the wording of his statement, before doubling down on his views about the current immigration process. Meanwhile, a statement released by United on social media appeared to push back on their co-owner’s comments, with the Premier League giants saying that they are a club that prides itself on “inclusivity”.

It read: “Manchester United prides itself on being an inclusive and welcoming club. Our diverse group of players, staff and global community of supporters, reflect the history and heritage of Manchester; a city that anyone can call home.

However, it’s a move that Morgan believes was deliberate, with the intentions of “chucking” the INEOS head honcho under the bus. Posting on X, the broadcaster said: “BREAKING: Manchester United very politely chucking their owner under a large bus.”

Ratcliffe’s comments drew criticism from several corners of the football and political world, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who urged the petrochemicals magnate to retract his words. Ratcliffe, who recently enjoyed a meeting with Reform leader Nigel Farage, had said in an interview with Sky News: “You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in.

«I mean, the UK has been colonised. It’s costing too much money. The UK has been colonised by immigrants, really, hasn’t it? I mean, the population of the UK was 58 million in 2020, now it’s 70 million. That’s 12 million people.»

On Starmer’s premiership as PM so far, he added: «I think Nigel is an intelligent man, and, I think he’s got good intentions. But in a way, you could say exactly the same about Keir Starmer. I think it needs somebody who’s prepared to be unpopular for a period of time to get the big issues sorted out.»
