People are only just finding out what ‘dry cleaning’ actually means
The term ‘dry cleaning’ gets thrown around a lot, but it seems like few really knows what it means.
In spite of its name, dry cleaning has nothing to do with drying.
Tiktoker user @Bar7Ranch took to the social media platform to explain how dry cleaning works.
In the TikTok video, the dry cleaning professional broke down the process.
He clarified that “dry cleaning is just like washing except you’re doing it in a solvent versus water.”
The video featured a glimpse of a dry cleaning machine, which resembles a large household washer.
He explained the importance of sorting colours, just as one would at home, before the garments are cleaned.
The solvent used then removes dirt and grease effectively, making it suitable for delicate fabrics that might shrink in a traditional wash.
A comment from a viewer asked: “Why is dry cleaning preferred over conventional water/detergent? Efficiency?”
In response, another user noted that dry cleaning is ideal for clothes that would shrink if washed in water.
“The dry cleaning chemical doesn’t shrink the clothes,” they explained, adding that clothes that won’t shrink are washed in water.
The video resonated with many viewers as several were baffled by the fact they had no idea what dry cleaning was.
“I am 53 and never knew how dry cleaning was actually done. Thank you for the education,” one said.
Another added: “How cool. I never knew what dry cleaning entailed.”
