Nutritionist says 59p nutrient for ‘older people’ boosts ‘heart’
A certified nutritionist has highlighted a nutrient that, if not adequately consumed, can lead to various health problems such as fatigue, joint pain, insomnia, and skin conditions including acne. However, there is a supplement that could help mitigate these issues.
Currently, Dr Vegan offers Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels for £21.99 for a single pouch purchase, or for better value, customers can consider the subscription options. For instance, a 90-day supply of three pouches is now priced at £53.09, reduced from £65.97, equating to approximately 59p per day.
Moreover, customers can get an additional 15% discount using the code ‘VOM3’, further reducing the prices. Therefore, a single pouch would cost £18.69, and the 90-day subscription would be £45.13, making it an opportune time to buy the supplement.
Ariella Kaur Maan, a registered nutritionist and nutritional therapy practitioner who heads the Practitioner Program at Dr Vegan, has discussed the benefits of Omega 3 and the problems associated with its deficiency. She stated: “A deficiency in Omega 3 can lead to fatigue, joint aches, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, acne and skin conditions, weak hair and nails, and other issues.
“The body cannot make Omega 3 fats and therefore relies on getting it from your diet or supplements. There are three types of Omega 3 fats – DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha linolenic acids). It is very hard to gain sufficient EPA and DHA every day if you don’t eat fish or a consistent, healthy balanced diet”, reports the Mirror.
Discussing the advantages, she added: “There are many benefits of older people increasing their Omega 3 intake, in particular:
- Arthritis: There are lots of studies showing the benefits of Omega 3 for people who have osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, including an improvement in symptoms of stiffness and an increase in mobility.
- Heart health: Omega 3 is beneficial for heart health by balancing the levels of other fats in the blood, helping to maintain good cholesterol levels, and reducing the development of arterial plaques. Omega 3 fats may also lower the risk of heart attacks.
- Brain function: Our brain has the highest fat content in our body – 70% of our brain is made up of fat. Omega 3 ‘DHA’ is needed for the brain structure, and omega 3 ‘EPA’ is needed for communication between brain cells. Studies show omega 3 fats also support healthy moods, memory and cognition. DR.VEGAN’s Omega 3 contains 1,000mg Omega 3, providing the optimal levels of DHA (300mg) and EPA (150mg).”
The Dr Vegan softgels are designed to promote healthy brain function, cardiovascular health, and eyesight through high-strength vegan Omega 3. The supplement delivers optimal levels of DHA and EPA, two forms of Omega 3 fatty acids, which have been responsibly sourced from plant algae whilst protecting marine ecosystems, according to the brand.
Additionally, the softgels contain no fishy odour or aftertaste, ensuring straightforward consumption. The website states the supplement comprises 1,000mg algae oil, delivering 550mg of Omega 3, 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA per serving. The softgels are claimed to be ‘free of toxins and pollutants found in fish oil’ and, with vitamin E incorporated, they have been formulated to promote ‘optimal health’.
The website indicates benefits may become apparent anywhere from one week to three months. For the Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels, customers should consume two softgels daily, which can be taken with or without meals.
The manufacturer states they contain no added sugar, sweeteners, gluten, wheat, soya, lactose, dairy, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Should these prove unsuitable, alternative products are available.
At Holland and Barrett, shoppers can find Equazen 360 Capsules priced at £54.35. These reportedly contain ‘a precise blend’ of PUFAs: Omega-3 EPA and DHA from fish oil, and Omega-6 GLA from Primrose oil.
Alternatively, for a more budget-friendly option at Boots, the retailer stocks its own Boots Everyday Omega 3 Fish Oil 1,000mg – 30 Capsules for £4.20. Appropriate for adults and children from 12 years upwards, these contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, with the recommended dosage being one capsule daily with ample liquid, according to the website.
Returning to Dr Vegan’s Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels, customers have shared overwhelmingly favourable feedback. On Trustpilot, the company has achieved an average 4.6 out of five-star rating across more than 6,000 reviews, earning an ‘Excellent’ overall rating.
One customer, Stephanie, commented: “Excellent, great results and no fishy aftertaste.” Meanwhile, Jasmine noted: “Noticeably less joint discomfort after a week’s worth of use.”
Some customers shared their thoughts, including Mike Harrison who commented: “It’s good for my brain health. The subscription service means I don’t run out. Price is competitive. One teensy moan is that the capsules are slightly tacky, and tend to stick to my pill case. But if you don’t use a pill case, that won’t bother you!”
On the whole, most buyers were satisfied with their purchase. Another customer, Mandy Stewart, remarked: “Really helps me and my joints, as I love to regularly work out at the gym. At 54 I’ve really noticed the difference since taking them.”
