‘My neighbour keeps parking in my driveway so I got my revenge’
A woman has shared the “vindictive” revenge she executed after her neighbour refused to stop parking in her driveway.
Maintaining friendly neighbourly relationships can, at times, prove challenging but it’s safe to assume the vast majority of people don’t want to live in hostility. Life is significantly easier when we get on with those we have to see regularly.
Unfortunately, conflict is sometimes unavoidable. This appears to be the case for one 30-year-old woman and her neighbour, Linda, who “constantly” parks on her driveway “without asking”.
The woman lives with her husband in a “suburban neighbourhood” in a house that boasts a double driveway. On Reddit, she shared: “Over the past few months, Linda has repeatedly ignored my requests to stop parking in our driveway.
“Well, today things finally came to a head. I woke up early for an appointment only to find Linda’s car parked in my driveway again, blocking me in. My husband had already left for work, so I knocked on her door and waited for about 15 minutes, but there was no answer. I even tried calling her, but her phone went straight to voicemail.”
Feeling “completely fed up” and now running late for her appointment, the woman was at her wits’ end so rang a towing company, which arrived quickly and hooked up Linda’s car. Linda then “stormed out of her house, furious”.
The woman continued: “She yelled at me and the tow truck driver, calling me ‘petty’ and claiming I could have just ‘waited a bit longer’ or ‘left a note’. I calmly reminded her that I’d asked her multiple times to stop parking in my driveway, but she wasn’t having it.
“She ended up paying the towing fee, and now she’s absolutely livid. She’s been telling other neighbours that I’m a ‘vindictive control freak’, and a couple of them have hinted that I might’ve gone too far. Even my husband thinks I could have handled it differently and avoided escalating things.”
The woman’s mother-in-law has had a “dig” at her, implying she didn’t know how to “manage conflict like an adult”. Since the altercation, Linda “glares” at her whenever she sees her, and her husband “is annoyed about the neighbourhood drama”, while her mother-in-law acts as though it’s a “personal failure” on the woman’s part.
She added: “I still think I was justified, but I’ll admit the fallout is a lot to deal with.” People were keen to share their thoughts. One suggested: “Just tell the neighbours that you will inform Linda that she is allowed to park in their driveway.”
Another said: “Yeah, this is like some sort of gaslighting situation. She has gone above and beyond trying to solve the problem and this b**** neighbour left her with no choice. Every single one of these people can go f*** themselves. I would’ve called a tow truck instantly.”
A third commented: “Seems like you DID try to resolve the conflict before escalating. Justified.”
