MoneySavingExpert reveals 4 easyJet hacks to flying as cheaply as possible | Personal Finance | Finance

If you’re planning on flying with EasyJet, Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert has revealed how you can save money and make your trip even cheaper with these tips.

EasyJet is known for being one of the UK’s most affordable airlines but even if you think you already know how to get the cheapest flights, you might not have heard of some of these tricks.

Extra luggage

The airline allows passengers to pay before arriving at the airport for extra hand luggage. If you turn up to your flight with more hand luggage than you are allowed, it works out more expensive to pay there for extra bags.

If you do this before you arrive at the airport, you’ll pay a cheaper fee and you’ll get quicker boarding included, says the Money Saving Expert website.

Another tip you might not know is that EasyJet allows you to carry one bag of goods brought at the airport in addition to your hand luggage.

If you buy anything at duty-free, you can move some of your extra luggage into this bag to free up some room.

Choose your seat

According to Money Saving Expert, EasyJet uses a dynamic pricing model meaning that prices fluctuate for seats on the plane depending on demand.

To make sure you get the seat you want for the best price, make sure to book your seats as soon as this is available.

In 2024, seat releases happened in March, May and September – some found seats as early as 5am on seat release days.

You should always check flight prices with other websites, for example Skyscanner. In doing so, you’ll be able to cross check the cost of your flights with other affordable options to ensure you definitely have the best deal.

Check in 30 days before flying

Easyjet also runs another great feature which other airlines don’t have – it lets you check in and allocates you a seat 30 days before you fly for free.

If you want a specific seat you have to pay but the earlier you check in, the more likely it is that you get allocated a better seat.

When you are booking your flights, make sure to keep your dates flexible if you can. While searching, if you move the dates around you could save hundreds of pounds by changing your departure date or when you plan to fly back.

Eating on the plane

Finally, make sure to avoid unnecessary extras such as food on the plane, you can take food with you which will work out much cheaper.
