Michael Schumacher public appearance was ‘fake news’ as ex-team-mate speaks out | F1 | Sport

Johnny Herbert has described claims that Michael Schumacher attended the private wedding of daughter Gina-Maria in October as ‘fake news’.

Schumacher has been absent from the public eye for over a decade following his near-fatal skiing accident in the French Alps, with his wife Corinna and a team of medical professionals helping to care for the seven-time world champion at home.

However, fans were given a glimpse of hope after reports from Germany explained that Schumacher was present at the wedding of Gina-Maria and her husband Iain Bethke at Corinna’s £27million property, formerly owned by Real Madrid owner Florentino Perez.

However, according to FIA steward Herbert, the reports were little more than speculation. “It will always be a closed shop,” he told FlashscoreUSA.com.

“The most recent rumour was he attended his daughter’s wedding. Unfortunately, from what I understand that was all A1 fake news and no truth in it.”

Herbert’s beliefs are backed up by neurosurgeon Jussi Posti, who called out the chances of Schumacher attending the wedding as highly unlikely, given his condition.

“If a hospital has been built in his house, with everything medicalised around him, it seems that he has been in hospital most of the time,” Posti told Iltalehti. “Based on the information available, I don’t think he leads a very active life.

“Everything points to him being unwell. As bedridden patients, most people become so frail and stiff that it is no longer possible to get them out of bed after so many years.”

The Schumacher family had to deny another wedding in quick succession as theories that Mick Schumacher and Danish model girlfriend Laila Hasanovich are engaged were debunked.
