Mason Greenwood’s wages revealed after ex-Man Utd star handed Marseille deadline | Football | Sport

Details of Mason Greenwood’s lucrative contract at Marseille have emerged as the star fights to save his future in France. Greenwood has scored 15 times this season after his permanent move from Manchester United in the summer for an initial £27million fee.

Despite his good form, the 23-year-old appears on the verge of a club exit this summer. He was dropped by manager Roberto De Zerbi for the recent games against Lens and PSG, who publicly explained he “wanted to see more” from the striker. Greenwood has now reportedly been given two months to salvage his relationship with his boss or face being sold.

The extent of Greenwood’s current deal in Marseille has now been revealed. French media outlet L’Equipe has named the monthly highest earners in the country’s top flight, with the list unsurprisingly dominated by PSG players.

The top 12 in the table all belong to the Champions League quarter-finalists. Ousmane Dembele leads the way on £1.26 million-a-month, with teammates Marquinhos (£1m) and Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Hernandez (£920,000) behind him.

Greenwood is not actually the highest earner in Marseille, with Adrien Rabiot and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg taking that mantle with £418,000. The one-cap England international does make the top 20, though, on £377,000-a-month.

However, the figures do not include win or goal bonuses. Therefore, Greenwood’s monthly salary is likely to have worked out as more than that though, with the club lying second in the table and heading for Champions League qualification.

The apparent fallout between Greenwood and De Zerbi has sparked concern among fans. The player was seemingly revitalising his career in France, also notching three assists to go with his current goal tally.

He moved to the club following his loan spell in Spain at Getafe last season. Only this month he enhanced his ambitions to play more international football, with the FA confirming that he had switched his eligibility to Jamaica.
