Martin Lewis MSE issues 3-week warning to everyone with a Tesco Clubcard | Personal Finance | Finance
Martin Lewis’ MSE is warning Tesco shoppers they have just three weeks left to use their Clubcard points or risk losing them for good.
The MoneySavingExpert website warns that £18million worth of Clubcard vouchers are due to expire at the end of this month.
The vouchers only remain valid for two years from their date of issue and cannot be used or reissued after this date, so you’ll lose them if you don’t redeem them in time.
As such, shoppers need to use up their reward points within the next three weeks and make sure they’re spent before midnight on Saturday, November 30.
You can check when your vouchers are due to expire by logging in to the Tesco Clubcard website online and clicking on ‘Clubcard account’ and then ‘Vouchers’, or by logging into the Tesco app. Once you’ve found them you can spend them online or instore using the code provided.
Every £1 spent equates to one point when scanning your Clubcard or app, while drivers can earn one point for every two litres that is spent on fuel. One point is equivalent to 1p, so for every 150 points you collect you’ll make £1.50 worth of savings. You’ll need to collect a minimum of 150 points before you can request a Clubcard voucher to spend.
If you don’t want to use your vouchers in store, you can put them towards petrol, or they can be doubled in value and spent at more than 100 Tesco Clubcard reward partners, which includes Disney+, Pizza Express, Hungry Horse pubs and Ask Italian, among others. You also have the option of swapping your vouchers to claim money off your Tesco mobile bill if you wish.
Alternatively, it is possible to extend the expiry date on your vouchers by another two years if you don’t want to spend them just yet, according to MSE. To do this you’ll need to make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page and the remaining balance will then be credited back to your Clubcard account as points.
These points can be swapped for vouchers manually or you can wait for them to be converted with your next statement. The new expiry date for these vouchers will then be two years later, so you’ll have until 2026 to use them.
Tesco said: “When you request to turn your Clubcard points into vouchers, your statement will no longer be sent to you by post. Your Clubcard statement will then be sent to your registered email address.
“You must have a minimum of 150 Clubcard points to request a voucher. When you request to turn your points into vouchers, your points balance will be turned into vouchers, in 50p increments. Any remaining points will stay in your Clubcard points balance.
“Any adjustments or refunds to your points balance will be processed instantly. The amount you receive in vouchers may be different to the number of points requested, to account for any adjustments or refunds.
“Clubcard collection periods are quarterly, (May, August, November, and February but exact dates may vary). Members will not be able to turn points into vouchers for 10 days before the end of each collection period.”
