Lloyds customer hoping to claim £200 told he may have to visit Halifax branch | Personal Finance | Finance
A saver thinking of switching to Lloyds Bank was told they may have to visit a Halifax branch to find out if they were eligible for some free cash. Lloyds Bank is currently offering £200 to switchers opening a current account with the group. A person tempted by the offer got in touch with the bank as they were unsure if they would qualify.
The saver asked over X: “I’m looking to switch to Lloyds current account to get the £200 reward. It says I cannot have had switch cash from Halifax since 2020 to qualify.
“I did set up a Halifax account after this date but can’t remember if I got switch cash. Is there anyway you can check?”
The rules on the Lloyds website state that you cannot get the funds if you received a switching offer previously since April 2020, when switching to “any Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax Bank account”, as these are all part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
Replying to the saver, the Lloyds social media team said while they couldn’t access customer details, they would try and help as best they could.
They asked the individual if they still had the Halifax account, as in this case they may be better off contacting Halifax.
The saver said they no longer had the Halifax account. Lloyds then suggested the person may want to visit a Halifax branch as “they can access closed accounts” and could check their old statements to see if they ever received a cash switching offer.
The person then messaged Halifax asking for their help so he could avoid having to take a trip to a branch. Halifax responded: “It sounds as if you may have had the incentive payment previously.”
Halifax then said they may be able to provide the details over the phone, sparing the saver from having to visit a branch.
The bank suggested they call them up on 03457 203040. This helpline is open 8am to 6pm seven days a week.
Another person recently asked Lloyds to clarify how the rules work for the £200 switch payment.
They asked over X: “Does your switch offer exclude switching from NatWest? I know Bank of Scotland accounts don’t qualify and given NatWest is part of RBS [Royal Bank of Scotland] I wasn’t sure if moving from NatWest would fail to qualify for the offer to?”
Lloyds clarified said in response: “Bank of Scotland is part of Lloyds Banking Group. RBS is a different bank, you would be able to switch from NatWest. I hope this helps.”
Savers may want to note that Royal Bank of Scotland is a subsidiary of the NatWest Group, which is separate from Lloyds Banking Group.
