Liverpool player ratings vs Wolves: Three 8s and a 4/10 as Reds scrape Anfield victory | Football | Sport
Liverpool saw off Wolves by the skin of their teeth to go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.
First-half goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah proved absolutely crucial as the visitors rallied after the break. Matheus Cunha pulled one back with a fine strike, but Wolves left Anfield empty-handed despite putting on a spirited display.
There were good and bad performances for Arne Slot to ponder, and the manager has plenty to dissect when he looks back on an entertaining 90 minutes. Here, Express Sport takes you through how each one of them performed…
Liverpool player ratings vs Wolves (4-2-3-1)
Alisson: 7
Brilliant save to deny Marshall Munetsi one-on-one with the score at 2-0. Punched the ball clear with danger looming late in the game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 5 (Bradley, 64)
Decent defensively, with tackles made to stop Rayan Ait-Nouri and Cunha. But uncharacteristically poor on the ball, and a sloppy pass out from the back was nearly punished by Joao Gomes.
Ibrahima Konate: 4 (booked) (Quansah, 45)
Not a good day at the office. Booked for a needless pull-back on Cunha and fortunate not to pick up a second when he steamed into an aerial challenge. Hauled off at the break.
Virgil van Dijk: 6 (booked)
Calming presence at the back but no standout moments and Wolves had spells of joy going forward.
Andrew Robertson: 5
Rolled by Pablo Sarabia early on and skinned by Nelson Semedo later in the game. Robertson’s defensive positioning was poor but he did produce a dangerous low cross in the first half, which went unanswered.
Ryan Gravenberch: 7
Draws fouls with his signature half-turn. Slid a nice pass into Diogo Jota, who won a penalty which was chalked off for simulation. Rating took a hit when he was left for dead by Cunha before the Brazilian halved the deficit.
Alexis Mac Allister: 7
Dinked through-ball sent Diaz on his way to win a first-half penalty. Otherwise an unremarkable 90 minutes.
A touch of good fortune about his scuffed assist for Diaz, which may not go down as his assist at all. Tucked his penalty away with typical confidence, and had the ball in the net again before being thwarted by a marginal offside call.
Dominik Szoboszlai: 8
Well-rounded performance from the Hungarian. Powerful run and shot which whistled just wide in the first period. Picked out Diaz with a lovely long ball. Took care of his defensive duties, even from the No. 10 role.
Luis Diaz: 7 (Endo, 71)
Flukey opening goal but he was in the right place at the right time. Made a good run to win the penalty for Liverpool‘s second, although he was lucky not to be penalised for a nudge on Emmanuel Agbadou. Generally had more freedom to influence the game back on the left wing but occasionally a bit sloppy with his tackling and passing.
Diogo Jota: 6 (Nunez, 64)
Started the attack which led to Diaz’s opener. Shocking dive to win a second-half penalty which was overturned by VAR – lucky not to be booked for it.
SUBS
Jarell Quansah: 8
Good interception to stop Cunha’s through-ball which could have caused serious problems, and then what a sensational block to prevent a tap-in late on.
Conor Bradley: 6
Kept tricky customer Ait-Nouri relatively quiet in his 30-minute cameo.
Darwin Nunez: 6
Unable to offer much more than Jota did on a disappointing afternoon.
Wataru Endo: N/A
A late addition.
