Kyren Wilson sleeps with World Champ trophy for final time as he’s forced to hand it back | Other | Sport

Kyren Wilson has starred in an amusing social media video which shows him sleeping with the World Championship trophy for the final time. The snooker ace became the world champion last year but now has to hand back his prize before the 2025 tournament.

Wilson can bid to reclaim the trophy when the World Championship begins on April 19. He will hope to be in the final again, with the showdown set to take place on May 5.

The Warrior beat Jak Jones 18-14 at The Crucible last year. But he has now had to hand his trophy back to the World Snooker Tour (WST).

In a hilarious spoof video shared on social media by his agency, Wilson shows fans what his final day with the trophy looked like. It begins with him eating spaghetti off its lid.

Wilson then uses it to support his cues on the practice table. They are then seen sharing tea in a beachside property, before dancing together in front of the sea.

The final shot shows Wilson tucking the trophy into his double bed before cuddling up to it. It is the final time he will sleep with the trophy unless he is victorious at The Crucible again.

Wilson has revealed that being the reigning world champion is not all glamorous. The world No. 2 has been forced to make plenty of sacrifices over the past year.

“I feel like I’ve spent more time in hotel rooms and out of a suitcase than ever before but I just mentally accepted that was going to be the case this year and not let it consume me,” he told the Metro.

“I wanted to make sure I enjoyed it because you are only going to be first time world champion once. If you let it consume you then what’s the point? What’s the point of working so hard to achieve that?”

Wilson is gearing up for this year’s World Championship in decent form. He won the German Masters earlier this month and reached the final of the Masters the month before. However, he suffered a wobble at the Welsh Open, knocked out in the last-32 by Joe O’Connor.

The 33-year-old will be desperate to defeat the likes of Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan and get his hands on the trophy for a second time.
