John Lewis makes major announcement about its insurance business | Personal Finance | Finance
John Lewis has announced a major change to its insurance offering, which it says will provide customers with much more options. The retailer has moved from a one insurance partner and revealed that it is working with a panel of leading and trusted home insurers in order to offer its customers wider cover and more competitive quotes.
According to the retailer, its financial services arm John Lewis Money has more than 1.4 million customers across a range of products, including home, car and pet insurance, loans and travel money. And now that John Lewis Money is an FCA-authorised insurance broker, it can offer more choice in both home and car insurance, reach more customers, and exercise greater control over its policies.
John Lewis Money Director, James Mack, said: “By becoming an authorised broker, we’re taking a significant step in our strategy to make John Lewis Money more relevant to our customers. People have long placed their trust in us, and this move allows us to offer a broader range of cover to meet their needs.
“Moving away from a one size fits all approach means we can bring together a panel of leading insurers and use our independence to act as an advocate for our customers, helping them find the quality and peace of mind they expect from the John Lewis brand.”
John Lewis also revealed that it will have more control over what is included in the policies, including having more modern protections such as e-bikes, and non-standard risks for home insurance customers, and electric vehicles for car insurance policies.
Home insurance policies will go live this April – the first product to launch to customers. The panel network will include insurers such as AXA, Prestige Underwriting and Covéa Insurance.

Marco Distefano, managing director at AXA UK retail, described the new move as an “exciting opportunity”, adding that the partnership “reinforces our commitment to offering services that drive value, trust, and deliver quality customer experience”.
Next month’s launch will be followed by the introduction of a range of car insurance providers later this summer.
John Lewis said that the panel model will drive more competitive pricing for customers. The new change marks John Lewis Money’s mission to serve both existing partnership customers and connect with new ones.
It follows the sponsorship of England Rugby, announced in 2025, to offer John Lewis Money customers a variety of additional perks, including access to tickets and exclusive experience giveaways.
