‘I’m a professional cleaner – these are the seven things I’d never have in my house
Brits looking to simplify their cleaning routines are being advised to ditch certain home features that are notoriously difficult to maintain.
A professional cleaner, known as Clean With J online, has shared her expert insights on what to avoid in your home to make cleaning more manageable.
Clean With J, who has gained over 15,000 followers with her candid cleaning tutorials and product reviews, recently revealed the top seven things she would never have in her own house due to the cleaning challenges they present.
1. Compartmentalized Toothbrush Holders:
J strongly advises against using fancy toothbrush holders with multiple compartments.
“These are so tricky and time-consuming to clean compared to a normal one,” she said.
2. Sunroof Windows
While they may flood your home with natural light, sunroof windows are labeled a ‘breeding ground for cobwebs’ and are extremely ‘tricky to clean,’ according to J.
3. Wooden Kitchen Worktops
Despite their aesthetic appeal, wooden worktops in the kitchen are a no-go for J. “There’s just something about these that doesn’t seem hygienic in my opinion,” she remarked.
“Also, if you let a food stain harden on this, that’s 10 minutes out of your day you’re not going to get back.”
4. Mirrored Light Switches
These sleek fixtures might look modern, but J describes them as a ‘bitter sweet’ cleaning task.
“They’re good because you can see every fingerprint and you realise how dirty light switches get,” she explained, noting that they require constant wiping down.
5. Built-in Blinds
When it comes to window treatments, J slams built-in blinds for accumulating ‘so much dust’ and quickly becoming a ‘breeding ground for cobwebs.’
6. Beds Positioned Next to Windows
One of J’s biggest pet peeves is placing a bed right next to a window.
“Could be a niche dislike for cleaners this, but I do not want to climb on your bed to clean the window,” she said.
“My rule is always no outside clothes on the bed.”
7. Excessive Clutter
Lastly, while not a specific item, J emphasises that general clutter makes any space harder to clean and less presentable, urging homeowners to declutter regularly.
