‘I explored abandoned bank – and couldn’t believe what was left’ | Weird | News
An urban explorer has reacted in disbelief after making a shock discovery whilst making his way around the inside of a former bank.
Known across social media as The Bearded Explorer – whose real name is Colin Smith – documented his latest exploration after being given permission to access the abandoned premises. “The site was sold to developers quite a few years ago, but nothing ever happened with the site,” he told his 91,000 TikTok followers in a caption.
And teasing his discovery, he penned: “It had some very interesting things left behind indeed! I can only imagine that the key was lost and they never bothered to look for it. Absolutely crazy!”
Upon entering the three-storey building, The Bearded Explorer said he’d been told that a vault still existed inside, which was of particular interest. He noted the former reception area, which contained little more than a blue carpet.
Venturing further inside, The Bearded Explorer pointed out where the ATM machines once stood, clearly visible set within one wall, will huge, heavy chains on the floor that once provided protection from their damage and theft. Situated just to the left, meanwhile, was the vault.
Gasping in amazement, he continued: “God, look at that door. Look how thick it is. That is crazy and it’s absolutely solid.” However, he soon realised that an adjacent door showed signs of being broken open.
A third dark and padlocked room revealed paperwork scattered across the floor, whilst a cabinet still stood with it’s doors wide open. After shining his torch towards it, The Bearded Explorer was left gobsmacked. “There’s money inside it, oh my God. What?” Indeed, sealed bags of £20 notes were clearly visible on one of the cabinet’s shelves, as was a crumpled £10 note and a roll of toilet paper.
“You’re kidding me – they have actually left money in the safe,” he continued. “That is absolutely crazy – I cannot believe it.” The Bearded Explorer continued: “Now I know the building has been sold and the owner’s probably aware it’s in there, but maybe he can’t get in there.”
“That door is definitely locked, I can’t get in there,” he closed, before sharing footage of electrical wiring surrounding the door, suggesting the area is still alarmed.
Soon, after further inspection, he realised: “The power is still on. Well there you go, I never expected to see money in there.”
