How to remove fake tan stains from bedding with simple method
Fake tan is a hugely popular beauty product here in the UK, as many find it difficult to catch a natural tan – especially with the British weather.
There are so many different brands and versions to choose from, such as lotions that build up colour over time and foams designed to develop overnight as you sleep.
It’s now easier than ever to go to bed and wake up with a sun-kissed glow, without actually going outside or using sunbeds. But fake tan lovers will know all too well the stains it can leave on bed sheets – especially white ones.
However, there’s a very simple trick that can help to remove stains and make your bedding look ‘bright white’ again.
Online furniture retailer Wayfair has spoken to TikTokker Ann Russell, a woman who has racked up more than 2.6 million followers on the platform thanks to her no-nonsense advice for cleaning.
And she’s exclusively shared a helpful tip that can help you to tackle tough fake tan stains on your bedding, clothes, and towels, making them look brand new again.
Ann said: “Whilst I have never used fake tan, my daughter does and she has white bedding. I find using oxygen bleach of some description works a treat. Also, if you have white bedding, a dose of Ariel, spray pre-wash with either Ace Green or Peroxide on a long 60° cotton wash restores the bedding to bright white.”
Oxygen bleach tends to be more gentle than chlorine bleach, and it’s able to effectively remove stains and brighten up dull fabrics – making it ideal for tackling fake tan stains.
And if you’re an avid fake tan user, finding stained sheets a very common problem, then it could be worth actually changing up the kind of bedding you have – as certain fabrics may be better than others.
Daniela Venturini, art director and trend forecaster from Wayfair said: “If you’re known for marking your bed sheets with fake tan, avoid light coloured bedding. Instead, opt for darker shades or patterned sheets as they are less likely to show unsightly stains. Colours like navy and black are great choices.”
She also recommended choosing something in cotton or microfibre, as this is more likely to last longer through frequent washing.
