How to crochet cosy winter blanket with simple tutorial

When you think of popular hobbies, crocheting may not be your first thought.

But, it’s more popular than you think. In fact, the needlework technique, that sees people use a hooked tool to interlock loops of yarn, thread or other materials to create textiles, has gone pretty viral on TikTok.

People often share tutorials on how to crochet various items from toys to book covers to hats. And, if you want something comforting to cosy up to this winter, one woman has recently revealed how to make a gorgeous baby blanket.

Jo, known as jototheworldcreations, shares free crochet patterns on TikTok, and one of her offerings is perfect for beginners. She revevealed how to make a simple baby blanket, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

The mum said it’s the perfect thing to make to become a treasured “keepsake”, and it’s a good place to start if you want to try and learn how to crochet. You’ll just need a bit of practice you get going.

In the explainer video, Jo said you need to begin with a light yarn and a crochet hook. From here you can start making your chain, which she shows how to do in her explainer videos.

She then explains what patterns you need to follow to create the rows, and this will help you to structure the blanket. Prepare for a lot of repetition to build it.

By following her pattern guide you can later create a delicate boarder to make the blanket even prettier. The pattern Jo provides is free so, once studied, it should be pretty easy to pick up.

After all the hard work, you should be left with a super cosy homemade blanket that’s perfect for the winter months. It works as a gorgeous gift or addition to a crib for your little one.

The video has been viewed thousands of times since it was shared, and people seem keen to give the needlework technique a whirl. After all, there’s something very satisfying in making things for other people.

One person said: “Yes. That is my favourite stitch for a baby blanket.” Another asked an important question, writing: “Can someone tell me what the SC and stuff mean, because I’m trying to learn, and I’m so confused.”

Jo soon cleared this up for her, replying: “Yes, absolutely. SC = single crochet and DC = double crochet. The pattern on my site includes all the abbreviations and more.”

Someone else commented: “Just came across this. Going to make it for my 2nd grandchild due in Feb. They are not finding out the gender in advance, so making it in white. Thank you for the pattern!”
