Grand National 2025 runners and riders confirmed as full 34-horse list revealed | Racing | Sport

The 34 runners for this year’s Grand National have been confirmed, with I Am Maximus bidding to retain his crown after his remarkable success 12 months ago. Willie Mullins has a strong hand for the coveted race, with Iroko and Meetingofthewaters proving popular in the market.

The race has been majorly shaken up over the past few weeks, with the scratching of Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin leaving the race wide open. Several runners are now battling it out for favouritism, with Gavin Cromwell’s Stumptown and Vanillier well-fancied.

After their success last year, jockey Paul Townend has kept the ride on I Am Maximus. Minella Indo finished third that day under a strong ride from Rachael Blackmore, and the pair will reunite on Saturday in the hope of reversing that form.

John ‘Shark’ Hanlon has been bullish about the chances of Hewick over the past few days, and Gavin Sheehan will take the ride on the fan favourite. Sheehan last rode the gelding in the 2023 King George, when Hewick came flying home to land the spoils in remarkable fashion.

Mr Incredible, L’Homme Presse, Capodanno, Velvet Elvis and Minella Drama were all scratched earlier this week despite all being guaranteed a run, with Fontaine Collonges and Quick Wave also not being confirmed.

The shake-up meant that Nicky Henderson’s Hyland moved into the top 34, along with Horantzau D’Airy, Three Card Brag and Twig. The British trainer is yet to enjoy success in the Grand National but he has talked up the chances of Hyland previously – with Chantry House (100/1) his only other runner.
