It comes from the Greek word peplos, which refers to an ancient tunic. Meanwhile, it may come as a shock but it was not just a huge hit in 2010 – many women have donned the ensemble since the 19th century.

Peplum designs came back in again during the 1940s, the 1980s, and of course just over a decade ago. Despite being cast to the sidelines they have just started to splash on the glitzy stages of red carpet events and the catwalks this year – with the Princess of Wales being ahead of the huge trend after her stepping out at Wimbledon Tennis back in 2022.

Princess Kate’s most favoured look was when she wore a stunning structured design back in 2017 during a trip to Poland.

Alexander McQueen created the bespoke design that featured a stunning belt that cinched in her waiste and reportedly cost over £1,000.

However, Express.co.uk have found you a stunning alternative design for a fraction of the price. The L.K Bennett Mia Ivory Dress is now £149 after being reduced from £299 – and you can buy it here.

L.K Bennett describes the designs: ” It has a round neck, cap sleeves, peplum detail to the nipped waist and a pencil-style skirt. Wear it with a pair of heels and a leather bag when the office calls, or try it with platforms and a clutch for dressier occasions.|”
