Everton transfer talks ‘get heated’ as David Moyes decides he has seen enough | Football | Sport

Heated transfer talks have reportedly taken place behind the scenes at Goodison Park regarding a possible late-January exit.

Everton striker Beto is the subject of interest from Serie A side Torino but the Toffees are hoping to recoup a large chunk of the £26million they paid to Udinese 18 months ago. As yet the two sides have not reached an agreement on finances.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the starting striker under David Moyes since he was appointed to take over from Sean Dyche earlier this month. Beto’s chances to impress have been few and far between, but the 26-year-old was offered a glimmer of hope on Saturday, when Calvert-Lewin suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Brighton.

Beto came off the bench and played 77 minutes on the south coast, where Iliman Ndiaye scored the winner from the penalty spot. However, reports indicate that Moyes has seen enough from his first two weeks of working with Beto to decide he wants the club to go out and sign another striker.

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Moyes does not consider Beto part of his plans. More negotiations between Everton and Torino are said to have taken place on Sunday night, after the striker ‘forcefully’ made his position clear to the Toffees board.

Face-to-face discussions about Beto’s future have reportedly become ‘heated’, with Everton demanding almost £17million to let him go, and Torino’s top offer clocking in at £12.6m.

The 6ft 4in striker has a proven track record in Serie A, where he hit double figures for Udinese in consecutive seasons before making his move to England. He has only netted eight times in 54 games for Everton, and boasts just one Premier League start this campaign.

Armando Broja could have been drafted in to replace the injured Calvert-Lewin and the exit-bound Beto, but the Chelsea loanee is set to spend weeks on the sidelines due to an achilles injury. Talks have been held about sending Broja back to Stamford Bridge early to free up another loan slot.

Though there is uncertainty in his attacking ranks, Moyes is relishing the return to his former stomping ground. “Dychey left an awful lot of good things at this football club – resilience, being tough and hard to beat,” he said after the win over Brighton. “They’ve got all that.

“We’re trying to now add a little bit more, adding more chances and scoring more goals. I know exactly what the supporters want. Everton has always been incredibly special to me. I don’t know if I’ll do 11-and-a-half years again but we’ll see how far I can go.”
