Emma Raducanu’s latest world ranking as British star sees major jump | Tennis | Sport
Emma Raducanu’s position in the tennis world rankings remains unchanged while her British rival Katie Boulter enjoyed a huge jump. The 2021 US Open winner shot up to No. 25 in the women’s singles rankings earlier this month after reaching the final of the Transylvania Open.
There, Raducanu suffered a drubbing, losing 6-0 6-2 to home favourite Sorana Cirstea after just 63 minutes of play. Yet, the 23-year-old’s progression deep into the tournament saw her secure the vital points required to ascend the rankings. Unfortunately, the Brit wasn’t able to match that at the Qatar Open last week, where she was forced to retire from her opening match against Camila Osorio in Doha due to injury.
Raducanu was behind 6-2 4-6 0-2 in the round of 64 in Doha when she signalled that she couldn’t continue. That means, despite several players moving ahead of her and others dropping below, she was still in the same spot when the latest rankings were announced ahead of her Dubai Tennis Championships opener on Monday, which she lost 1-6 7-5 2-6 to Antonia Ruzic.

It marks Raducanu’s best ranking since August 2022, when she was the world No. 11 going into her 2022 US Open title defence, before losing in the second round and plummeting to No. 83. Since then, she has endured a gruelling few years, suffering repeated injuries and a lack of form which saw her tumble down the world rankings.
It is only in the past year that Raducanu has started to get into her stride and steadily ascend the rankings again. However, her latest defeat to Ruzic in the round of 64 in Dubai will not fill her with confidence.
In contrast, fellow English star Boulter is enjoying a stunning run of form which has moved her up nine spots in the world rankings. The 29-year-old Leicestershire ace, who recently split from her coach, now sits in 75th place in the world rankings after claiming her fourth WTA Tour title at the Ostrava Open earlier this month.
It marks a huge improvement for Boulter, who had dropped to 120th in the standings following what she described as a “hard year.” When dedicating her win, she said: “To my stable team, my whole family back home, everyone close to me knows how hard this last year has been for me.”
Boulter, whose best ranking of No. 23 came in November 2024, added: “To kind of get today, it makes it all worth it. I appreciate the work you do on a daily basis. It means everything to me. Thank you.”
