Elton John shares devastating message with fans after incredible Glastonbury set | Music | Entertainment
Following the Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses, Sir Elton John was the third and final headliner at Glastonbury Festival last night.
The 76-year-old’s sensational set was pitched as his last-ever UK concert, although he hinted during the show that this might not necessarily be the case.
Yet despite this, he shared some tragic news with fans on his Instagram today, confirming what they had feared about his touring future.
The star wrote: “Thank you, Glastonbury! The energy last night was like nothing else, and I couldn’t be more grateful to the crowd and the people watching at home for all your love and support.
“You will be in my heart and soul forever. UK, what a farewell. I love you.”
Sir Elton’s news came despite saying during his two-hour set at Worthy Farm that he may not be done performing in the UK.
During the performance, the singer said: “Ah wow, I never thought I’d ever play Glastonbury and here I am! It is a very special and emotional night for me because it may be my last show ever in England and Great Britain.
“So I better play well and I better entertain you. Because you have been standing there so long. I really appreciate all the outfits and everything.”
Sir Elton has been on his Farewell Yellow Break Road final tour – the highest grossing of all time with $887 million made so far – since 2018.
Having performed his final UK show, the 76-year-old will next play two nights in Paris on Tuesday and Wednesday.
After which he’ll give shows in Switzerland, Denmark and conclude with two nights in Sweden on July 7 and 8.
