Drivers urged to use household item to stop windows fogging up

Savvy drivers have shared the simple household ingredient they use to defog their car windows.

There’s nothing worse in the winter than going out to your car on your way to work or to do your weekly shop to find your windows are covered in mist or frost. It can take a while for the windows to return back to normal and using air conditioning to do so can prove expensive.

However, this can be prevented using one simple trick, according to social media users. Some claim using shaving cream, when applied directly to windows, not only eradicates pesky fog but can stop it from coming back.

Taking to YouTube, user Tech Know How said: “Today I’m going to show you something really cool. We’re going to take shaving cream, and I’ll show you another use for it.”

He then gestured to a car window and applied shaving cream to one side using a microfibre cloth, leaving the other side exposed. He emphasised that he was only using a “little bit”.

“It’s going to make it so it doesn’t fog up,” he continued. Once half of the window was treated, he blew on the window and showed how one side fogged up, while the other didn’t.

The short clip has garnered a staggering 63k views at the time of writing and many agreed that the hack was legitimate. One person wrote: “I’m a witness that this indeed does work.”

Another added: “Thanks SO much for your amazing video. Living in a Ski Resort here in Montana, this gem is a life saver for our wild winters!”

This hack works because shaving cream contains many of the same ingredients as defogging products, but is often sold at a fraction of the price.

It can stop windows for steaming up for up to a few weeks before it needs to be reapplied.
