Dog trainer recommends 3 big dog breeds – easy to train
Dog behaviouralist and trainer Will Atherton repeated what many of his followers might be thinking: “What is the easies dog breed to own in the world?”
Will answered: “As a canine behaviourist, I tend to work with the dog breeds that are hard to own… people need my help with them.
“However, I do every now and again get the pleasure of working with dogs that are just super easy.”
The expert explained his perspective: “When it comes to being easy to own, for me, I’m looking for dogs that are very handler engaged.”
Will elaborated: “They want to work with their owners; they tend to be lower on the energy scale; they tend not to be prone to separation anxiety.”
He said some of the easiest dog breeds to own “love to work for food, but are happy to settle down whenever you need them to”.
It’s for these reasons that Will selected the Golden retriever, Labrador and Newfoundland as the three big dogs that are the easiest to train and own.
For a more medium-sized dog, the dog training expert recommended an English Bulldog.
And for those who are curious as to what the smallest dog breed is the easiest to own, Will said: “It’s going to be the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.”
Fans of his behaviour training videos flocked to the comments section to express their opinions.
One pet owner gushed: “I have a cavalier female and she is the most beautiful dog. The sweetest personality ever. She is smart and fun, playful but very gentle and quiet.”
Another posted: “Lived with a Newfoundland and it is indeed a chill dog for its size, but still works as a great home protection dog.
“Big, hairy, easy to settle down when needed, and has teeth the size of a toddlers pinky. 10 out of 10 dog!”
