Chinese social media users gleefully mocked Vladimir Putin, after Ukraine’s devastating drone strikes on military airbases deep inside Russia. Launched from trucks, the drones destroyed some 40 Russian bombers, according to Ukraine.
Russian media commentators were quick to dub the attack as the country’s very own Pearl Harbour. Operation Spiderweb was in the planning for well over a year and represents a catastrophic failure of Russian intelligence.
Putin is reported to be furious as he seeks out those responsible for one of the blackest days in Russia‘s war with Ukraine.

China’s political portal Guancha was flooded with hundreds of comments, many of them openly mocking Russia and admiring Ukraine’s tactics.
“A weak empire that relies on Soviet nuclear weapons to maintain its image,” wrote one user.
While another said: “Russians have always been warlike, but they did not know how to fight… their bandit nature and senseless essence care only about food.”
A third sneered: ““We are witnessing the second split of the empire… we will be ready to return what once belonged to us.”

The land, comprising some 600,000 square kilometres, is part of Russia‘s Far East and includes Vladivostok – the base of Putin’s Pacific Fleet.
Others openly admired and respected the audacity and ingenuity of the Ukrainian operation.
“This tactic of the Ukrainians is absolutely innovative and deserves to be studied,” said one person.
While another commented: ““It must be admitted that Ukraine‘s special operations are truly impressive and deserve to be learned from.”
