Celebrity perfume urgently recalled over ‘serious chemical hazard’
A celebrity line of fragrances have been issued an urgent product recall as it was found to contain ingredients that are prohibited from being sold in the UK. Earlier this week, Savers Health and Beauty announced that three perfumes from Rhianna are being recalled from shelves.
Savers explained that it issued the recall of the ‘Rhianna 15ml’ fragrances as some contained ingredients which are “prohibited” from sale in the UK, these include Kiss, Riri, and Rogue. The UK Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards explained in its hazard statement: “The products present a serious chemical risk as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both chemicals are prohibited in cosmetic products.
“BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of the unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation. The products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (‘The Cosmetics Regulation’).”
The products affected by the recall are listed below, along with the specific batch codes:
- Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP – 0608940572252
- Rihanna Riri 15ml EDP – 0608940560389
- Rihanna Rogue 15ml EDP – 0608940559437

The OPSS reiterated that only products sold in Savers Health and Beauty stores with the barcodes listed are affected by the recall notice.
Customers are being asked to return any of the products above that have been bought at Savers to the place of purchase. Customers will be able to receive a full refund.
Savers urged customers to speak to its store teams for help and more information if they are unsure whether their product is affected by the recall.
On its website, Savers said: “Savers would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
