British Gas customers told not to use oven or washing machine before Saturday | Personal Finance | Finance

British Gas customers are being urged to avoid appliances which use a lot of electricity before this coming Saturday.

The energy supplier has set one of its half-price electricity days on this Saturday, August 3, which could save customers a lot of money on intensive power use.

The offer is only open to British Gas customers who have a smart meter, but those on EDF, E.On, OVO, Octopus or other suppliers can switch to British Gas and claim the deal.

British Gas customers who have signed up for its PeakSave Gold scheme not only get half price electricity from 9am to 5pm on Sundays, but will also be able to get the same offer this Saturday and on Saturday, September 7.

It means that customers with any high usage appliances like ovens, washing machines, tumble dryers or electric cars would be better off waiting until Saturday to use them, where possible, and make a huge saving.

The offer is on to mark the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

British Gas said: “From 28th July until 8th September, we’re running PeakSave Gold Sundays, where you get half-price electricity from 9am to 5pm. That’s an extra three hours on top of our usual Sundays!

“Plus, on 3rd August and  7th September we’re also throwing in two special PeakSave Super Saturdays during the Games, with the same half-price electricity from 9am to 5pm.

“Before each Gold Sunday or Super Saturday, we’ll send an email reminder so you can power up your savings.

“Use as much electricity as you need from 9am to 5pm – it’s all half-price!

“Your smart meter will tell us how much you used, and we’ll work out your credit.”
