Brit tourist in coma in Turkey as daughter ‘hoping for miracle’ recalls devastating call | World | News

The daughter of a man who travelled to Turkey for a winter break is now «praying for a miracle» after he suffered a heart attack. Peter McMahon, a man from Glasgow, suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Wednesday, November 19.

He had travelled to the popular Antalya resort just five days earlier, on November 14, to enjoy a week-long winter holiday. During this medical emergency, his heart stopped beating for 70 minutes. The 52-year-old is now in a ICU unit in a Turkish hospital.

His 20-year-old daughter, Teigan, rushed to the hospital after receiving a devastating call informing her of her father’s condition on the same day the medical incident happened. She told the Daily Record he is being «kept alive by machines» as she launched a desperate appeal for help.

She said: «I got a call on Wednesday to say my dad was in ICU after he had a heart attack. He had a mini heart attack a few months ago. This was totally different. They had to perform CPR on him for over an hour. His heart stopped beating for 70 minutes.

«It’s caused damage to his kidneys and is now having dialysis. He’s still in a coma but he’s able to breathe on his own. We are praying he wakes up. We are hoping for a miracle.»

Peter, the owner of a bodywork repair car garage, had travelled abroad without an insurance. His daughter has now set up a fundraiser to raise cash to pay for her dad’s hospital bill and to bring him home. The GoFundMe page, created earlier on November 22, has already generated over £2,700 in just a few hours.

She added: «I can’t stress enough how important every penny counts. This bill is increasing day by day and is far beyond anything me or my family can manage alone. I am not the type of person to ask anyone for a penny, but I will quite literally beg to save my dad’s life.

«I will do absolutely anything to give my dad the best possible chance.»

On the fundraiser’s page, the distraught daughter called her father «cheeky bubbly dad» and her «best friend».
