Amad confirms nightmare Man Utd injury blow with emotional 46-word message | Football | Sport

Amad has confirmed his devastating Manchester United injury blow, which will reportedly leave him out of action for the rest of the season, with a lengthy message to supporters. Ruben Amorim has suffered the worst of a string of setbacks in the build-up to Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The United boss has also lost Kobbie Mainoo for at least a couple of weeks through injury, while fellow midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer are, too, major doubts to face Spurs.

But losing Amad until pre-season represents a knife to the heart and darkens any hope and optimism of a successful end to a dismal season at Old Trafford.

On Saturday, Mail Sport reported that the 22-year-old winger had suffered ankle ligament damage during the week of training after last Sunday’s FA Cup win against Leicester City.

That bombshell news has since been authenticated by the player himself, who has penned an emotional message to supporters.

“Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season,” Amad wrote on his social media channels.

“Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”

Amad is United’s joint-top goalscorer in all competitions this season alongside Bruno Fernandes, netting nine times.

The Red Devils are already desperately short on goals, scoring just 28 times in 24 Premier League matches this term. Only Everton, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton have recorded fewer.

Amorim’s lack of firepower intensified uproar among supporters when the club decided against replacing Marcus Rashford and Antony after their loan exits in the winter transfer window.

Amad’s long-term injury isn’t likely to pour cold water on that fire, leaving Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho as the only remaining senior forwards.

That trio has managed just 28 career Premier League goals between them. Bruno Fernandes, who has 59 to his name, has played further back in recent games.

Amorim has reacted to the blow by naming 17-year-old academy sensation Chido Obi in his travelling squad alongside four other uncapped starlets.

Fellow summer arrival Sekou Kone is also included with Harry Amass, Jack Moorhouse and Elyh Harrison.

United have already lost first-choice defender Lisandro Martinez for several months after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury suffered in the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace two weeks ago.

And Amad’s impending unavailability will send a fresh wave of concern down the corridors of Carrington ahead of three daunting months of football.
