Harry Maguire’s conviction upheld six years after assault arrest | Football | Sport
Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has seen his assault and bribery conviction upheld six years after he was arrested in Greece. The England international had been handed a 15-month suspended sentence after a guilty verdict by the Greek Courts.
The 32-year-old was charged with non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery for an incident in Mykonos. Maguire has been found guilty on all three counts over the incident in August 2020, but his legal team are planning to appeal the verdict.
Maguire’s original sentence of 21 months has been reduced to 15 and 20 days by judges. The former Leicester City player has also been hit with a fine worth €1,500 (£1,304).
He did not appear in court and is expected to be named in United‘s starting line-up against Newcastle on Wednesday evening (8:15pm GMT).
