Beau Greaves hits historic nine-darter but won’t get any prize money for it | Other | Sport
Beau Greaves became the first female player to hit a nine-darter on the PDC circuit during her Players Championship clash with Mensur Suljovic on Wednesday. Greaves and Suljovic had shared the opening two legs between them, before Greaves put her foot on the accelerator and hit two maximums to kick-start the third leg.
That continued in the third leg, with yet another treble 20 followed by a treble 19, which set up the grandstand finish on double 12. The 22-year-old showed no signs of nerves getting the better of her, with Greaves pinning double 12 to cap off a stunning 141 finish.
In keeping with her cool, calm, collected character, Greaves kept a lid on any celebrations, with the darting supreme offering an understated fist pump after hitting the winning double. It was in stark contrast to her opponent Suljovic, who was keen to make sure Greaves received plenty of adulation for her achievement.
The Austrian ace showed his true colours by bowing to Greaves when she returned to the oche, before offering out both hands in a show of classy appreciation. Greaves continued to show her quality throughout the match, as the three-time women’s world champion went on to win the contest 6-5.
The only frustrating part for Greaves will be that the nine-darter didn’t happen on one of darts’ big TV stages, as she would’ve most likely pocketed an extra bit of cash from the competition sponsors.
Players at the previous two World Championship events have earned an extra £60,000 for completing the perfect leg, while those competing in the Premier League are gifted a set of golden darts worth £30,000. However, the PDC do hand out silver pin badges for non-televised nine-darters, while Greaves will also earn a spot in the PDC Nine-Dart Club.

Speaking afterwards she said: “When I beat Luke, it did give me a big confidence boost. I suppose I’ve just lacked confidence over the years, and I’ve got a little bit of it now. I can’t imagine I would get the Premier League unless I did obviously have a crazy run but I mean I wouldn’t say no. It’s maybe a little bit much for me that, but you know it’d make it a bit exciting wouldn’t it?”
