Tesco Clubcard shoppers urged to use £2 rule – ‘best way’ to spend points | Personal Finance | Finance
Loyalty card holders at a major supermarket have been urged to make the most of a rule that allows shoppers to double their rewards. Tesco Clubcard customers can use the ‘Double Value’ rule to make the most of their rewards with the supermarket’s partners.
While the new insurance rule is a 1:1 exchange, the best way to spend a £1 voucher is usually with Reward Partners. You can double the value of your vouchers by spending them at Tesco’s partners, such as Zizzi, Thorpe Park, Disney+, National Rail, and easyJet. For example, 500 points are usually worth £5 to spend at Tesco – but if you exchange your vouchers for codes to use with a Reward Partner, 500 points are worth £10. According to MoneySavingExpert, this is the best way to spend your points, unless you need travel insurance. Tesco Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years from the date they were issued (unless you’re able to extend them).
If you’re unsure when yours expire and you’ve still got them in paper format, check the date on the voucher itself. If you’ve lost your paper vouchers or are unsure if you had any in the first place, you can check on the Tesco Clubcard site or app.
To check online, go to the Tesco Clubcard website, select ‘account’ and then ‘vouchers’. You’ll need to be registered for a Tesco account and know your Clubcard number. You should then be able to see a table listing your available vouchers and their expiry dates.
To check on the Tesco app (you can download it for free through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store), go to ‘Clubcard’ and then to the ‘Vouchers’ section.
This comes after Tesco confirmed it’s examining whether to amend its Clubcard programme rules to allow those under 18 to participate.
At present, students and young employees are barred from accessing the £3.85 meal deal. Instead, younger shoppers are required to pay the standard £4.25 rate, which has sparked considerable annoyance among parents on social media.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We are actively reviewing Tesco Clubcard with the intention of making Clubcard available to under-18s this year. Those customers who do not have a Clubcard can still get great value from Tesco due to our combination of Aldi Price Match and Everyday Low Prices.”
