Manchester United have no intention of removing chief executive Omar Berrada from his position, with any speculation about his future reportedly wide of the mark. The ex-Manchester City chief football operations officer faced intense supporter demonstrations ahead of the 3-2 triumph over Fulham. Significant numbers of supporters assembled to voice their opposition to the Glazer family, INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and senior figures including Berrada.
He took up the role in January 2024, yet has already overseen numerous major calls. The executive displayed his uncompromising approach through the dismissals of Erik ten Hag, Dan Ashworth – just months following his appointment – and Ruben Amorim at the beginning of the year. Whilst the financial implications of these choices have reached eight figures, Berrada has maintained his position.
Berrada wields supreme executive authority alongside INEOS chief Ratcliffe, whilst collaborating closely with Jason Wilcox – who primarily oversees recruitment and strategic planning – to execute footballing matters.
Given the reported comments from additional sources at Old Trafford, there appears minimal prospect of Berrada departing the club in the near future.
The Athletic suggests individuals within the organisation do not anticipate Berrada being dismissed, despite his previous City colleagues growing anxious he might lose his position.
The 47-year-old was amongst the initial senior appointments made by Ratcliffe, soon after the petrochemicals tycoon acquired a 27.7 per cent stake in the club.
Even whilst serving his gardening leave at City, Berrada’s influence is believed to have been evident in the choice to dismiss Ten Hag – shortly after keeping him on – and the decision to pay compensation to Newcastle United for Ashworth.
Beyond footballing matters, Berrada was also tasked with informing club employees that further redundancies were imminent, merely six months after 250 staff members had been let go.
Berrada’s standing for shrewd commercial acumen and securing profitable sponsorship agreements is exceptional.

Indeed, City officials allegedly dubbed him the Lionel Messi of the commercial sphere, according to the same report.
He brokered a £10million sponsorship arrangement with Nissan at City, which additionally included a 20 per cent acquisition of Japanese top-tier outfit Yokohama F Marinos.
From a footballing perspective, he has yet to win over United supporters.
Whilst the choices to bring in Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko have been yielding results under Michael Carrick, frustration was still directed towards him, Jason Wilcox and the leadership.
In the summer, he alongside the rest of the United hierarchy must make a crucial call regarding their next permanent boss. At present, the verdict on who will assume control at Old Trafford on a long-term basis won’t be reached until the campaign concludes.
Carrick has made a strong impression during his second temporary stint, securing wins against City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur whilst drawing with West Ham United.
