Man Utd can sign four perfect free agents for scary new Ruben Amorim XI | Football | Sport
Manchester United will be hoping to add some extra quality between now and the start of next season. They have improved since the previous campaign but are far from the finished article and could do with some more additions to strengthen their ranks. The coming weeks will give Ruben Amorim a great opportunity to plan ahead by making a few big signings in advance.
That is because Premier League teams are now free to strike pre-contract agreements with players at foreign clubs who are in the last six months of their contracts. United, therefore, will be able to poach some top talent without paying a penny in transfer fees. Plenty of stars in Europe are yet to renew their existing deals, meaning there is no shortage of business to be done between now and the summer.
Express Sport takes a look at four of those players who could shine for United next season…
Mike Maignan
Senne Lammens has done brilliantly since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer, but it wouldn’t hurt to provide him with some better competition next season.
Maignan has established himself as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers over the last few years and nearly joined Chelsea in the summer, only for the deal to fall through because the Blues couldn’t agree a transfer fee with AC Milan.
That won’t be a problem for United if they decide to negotiate a pre-contract agreement. However, there is every chance that Maignan will want guarantees about his playing time, which could put the Red Devils in a difficult position.
Ruben Neves
The former Wolves midfielder has already been heavily linked with a move to United as he nears the end of his contract at Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
It’s clear that United need more quality in the middle and they could do far worse than to sign Neves, who is already proven in the Premier League and would bring plenty to the table.
He has a profile that United are currently missing, with his arrival potentially giving them another dimension in the engine room. He also has a strong chemistry with Bruno Fernandes, having played with the Red Devils skipper for Portugal.
Dusan Vlahovic
A move for the Serbian striker could appeal to United, given that Benjamin Sesko is yet to really hit the ground running since his summer move to England.
Vlahovic has been linked with a Premier League switch for a number of years and is reportedly set on running down his contract at Juventus.
If his stance remains unchanged, United could add some firepower to their attacking ranks by snapping him up on a pre-contract agreement.
Serge Gnabry
The former Arsenal man is no longer the world-beater he once was, but he remains more than capable of doing a job for the Red Devils.
His experience would be a major bonus in the dressing room as well, helping some of the club’s younger players to shine alongside him.
Any move would be against the odds, though, with reports suggesting that Gnabry is close to extending his contract at Bayern Munich until the summer of 2028.
