British Gas warning as customers have hours left to sign up for half price electricity | Personal Finance | Finance

British Gas customers have just one more day left to get half-price electricity over the festive holiday.

The energy supplier has confirmed that Sunday, December 15, is the deadline for customers to sign up for a 50% discount on electricity for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The 50% discount is applied during the hours between 11am to 4pm, providing eligible customers with a notable six hours or savings on both days.

The discount is part of the PeakSave scheme, which is available to customers on all tariffs. The scheme offers half-price electricity on PeakSave Sundays as well as during the new PeakSave Green Flex events.

Customers who are already signed up for PeakSave do not have to do anything to receive the festive bank holiday discounts.

However, those who are new to PeakSave must register by tomorrow.

British Gas will then check if you have the right smart meter, after which they’ll confirm eligibility by email within seven to 10 days.

The savings will be listed as “PeakSave Credit” on the energy bill, and a monthly summary of the savings will be provided.

For prepay customers, the credit will be automatically added to their meter each month, usually within 10 working days after the end of the month.

British Gas offered the same deal last Christmas and paid out £1.4 million to customers who took part in the event.

Catherine O’Kelly, managing director of British Gas Energy, said: “This festive season we wanted to give back to our customers once again.

“We know that so many of them appreciated the half price days last Christmas whilst they were spending more time at home with loved ones.

“It’s no surprise that our PeakSave scheme has been a huge success – it helps customers save on their energy costs while also contributing to a greener grid.

“We’re expecting that to continue throughout the winter and look forward to welcoming even more customers to PeakSave.”
