England squad announcement LIVE: Man Utd and Liverpool stars in frame amid injury crisis | Football | Sport

Alan Shearer has backed Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall to receive his first senior England call-up today after an encouraging start to the season.

The 20-year-old, who has earned five caps for the Under-21s, was named Player of the Match in Saturday’s win against Arsenal.

And Shearer believes he is worthy of an opportunity amid England’s continued availability woes at left-back.

“Lewis Hall is not far away from an England call-up. If he does get a call-up, he will have deserved it,” Shearer explained.

“If he doesn’t get one this time and he keeps playing the way he is, then it won’t be long. Lewis is not just knocking – he is banging on the door of the senior team.

“I watched him closely at the weekend and he had a fantastic game against Bukayo Saka, one of the best players in the Premier League and Arsenal‘s danger man.

“He had a great game and hardly gave him a kick and rightfully was given player of the match.”
