England WAGs ‘hire £100k ex-military specialist bodyguards’ after terror threat raised | Football | Sport

England’s WAGs are expected to splash out £100,000 on private bodyguards for this summer’s European Championships. It comes after reports that the terror threat had been increased ahead of the tournament in Germany.

Partners of the England team are reportedly looking to scrap the FA’s security team for Euro 2024, in favour of hiring ex-military specialist bodyguards. The decision follows last month’s terrorist attack in Moscow, which led to fears from inside the German government that something similar could happen this summer. moved reference to the Sun further down

It was reported earlier this year that a ‘ring of steel’ will be placed around each country’s team base, with the WAGs of the England team also looking for extra protection. And according to The Sun, the partners are keen to appoint a security team trained to deal with ‘all sorts of threats’.

A source said: “The FA security team looked after them at the World Cup in Qatar but this time they want to ramp up the security around them. They are looking to hire ex-military trained to deal with all sorts of threats.

“They’ll operate from a discreet distance so the group don’t draw too much attention. It means they can enjoy more freedom and feel safer at the same time. Plus, they do not want that their every move is being monitored and then reported back to the FA. They’ve been quoted £65,000 for the first few weeks, which will go north of £100,000 if England go all the way.”

On the pitch, England will travel to Germany as one of the tournament favourites, despite a dismal March international break. Gareth Southgate’s side failed to win either of their two friendlies, with a last-minute Jude Bellingham goal against Belgium the only thing stopping the Three Lions from recording back-to-back defeats.

Bellingham played against both Belgium and Brazil and he is expected to be the first name on the team sheet for England’s opening game on June 16. Who partners the duo in midfield is still up in the air, with Kobbie Mainoo having emerged as a potential candidate during the March break. The teenage sensation featured in both fixtures and made his first start for the national team during the Belgium draw.
