15 players set to miss Man Utd vs Wolves as Amorim handed injury blow | Football | Sport
Manchester United are gearing up for a Premier League clash against Wolves, but both teams will be missing several key players. The two sides last met just a few weeks ago at Molineux, where Ruben Amorim’s side won 4-1, thanks to a double from Bruno Fernandes and goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.
Currently, the Red Devils are sixth in the league table, just three points off the top four. Conversely, Wolves are languishing at the bottom, having failed to secure a win in their 18 matches so far; their most recent defeat was a 2-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend.
Following their Boxing Day victory over Newcastle, where Patrick Dorgu netted the match’s only goal, Amorim will be hoping his team can maintain their winning momentum this week. However, the United head coach will have to plan for Rob Edwards’ side without some of his star players.
Captain Fernandes is still out of action due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Aston Villa match earlier this month. In his pre-match press conference, Amorim disclosed that the midfielder is eager to return to training at Carrington, but he is likely to remain on the sidelines for a few more weeks.
United also face uncertainty over Mason Mount’s fitness after he was forced off the pitch against Newcastle. It remains unclear whether he will be fit enough to play against Wolves.
Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt have all been ruled out of recent matches due to injuries, and Amorim has confirmed that he does not anticipate any of them returning in time for the next game. Mainoo, specifically, is predicted to recommence training this week, making the upcoming Leeds match at the weekend the most probable return date.
In addition to injury woes, Amorim is also dealing with several absences owing to the Africa Cup of Nations. Noussair Mazraoui, Amad and Mbeumo make up the United trio representing their countries at the tournament in Morocco over the forthcoming month.
From a Wolves standpoint, defender Rodrigo Gomes underwent surgery for a groin injury last month and isn’t expected to be back until February. Toti Gomes is dealing with a hamstring issue and will be out of action until the new year.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is expected to make a comeback at the start of 2026 after being sidelined due to illness, while Marshall Munetsi is working his way back from a calf injury.
Leon Chiwome has been out of action since January with an ACL injury and no return date has been established. Aside from injuries, Edwards will also be without Emmanuel Agbadou due to the Africa Cup of Nations, while midfielder Andre is set to serve a one-match suspension following an accumulation of yellow cards.
